Santa Barbara (Great town to explore, lots of places to walk around, eat, shop, lounge on beautiful clean beaches and taste excellent wine). Definitely a favorite of LA locals.
Pismo Beach (Check out the Monarch Butterflies)

Sea World, San Diego Zoo (it has Pandas!), Coronado Island, old town San Diego State Historic Park and many, many others.) https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60750-d104586-Reviews-Old_Town_San_Diego_State_Historic_Park-San_Diego_California.html
